SUNY Press publishes scholarly and trade books in support of the State University of New York’s commitments to teaching, research, and public service. The press's editorial board is made up of faculty from campuses throughout the SUNY system, and its catalog features authors from around the world.
From a modest beginning in 1966, SUNY Press has become one of the largest public university presses in the United States, with an annual output of approximately 170 books and a backlist of more than 4,000 titles. Publishing chiefly in the humanities and social sciences, SUNY Press has attained national recognition in the areas of education, philosophy, religion, and Asian studies, with increasing growth in the areas of political science, regional studies, women's studies, African American studies, cultural studies, and environmental studies.
